Kintsugi for St Luke’s Hospice, Sheffield

Not wanting at this point of my life to start a business, rather than paying me for the kintsugi repairs that I do, I ask for contributions to St Luke’s Hospice.

100% of the proceeds goes to St Luke’s, and on occasion to other charities.  I do not deduct anything for materials or time.   The only exception is when someone wants a piece finished in gold when, because it is very expensive, I ask to be reimbursed.

Occasionally I will have pieces shown below that are available to buy, the proceeds going to St Luke’s.  If you are interested, please contact me.

One of five pieces designed especially for the Great British Menu by Grey Suit Clay for Jöro now for sale on behalf of St Luke’s Sheffield:

Artists’ Brush Rests and Chopstick Rests

  • When you repair objects using the traditional kintsugi method, you use urushi lacquer. It is a very precious and valuable lacquer and there is often a little left over.
  • Rather than waste it, I had the idea to use it to make brush rests and chopstick rests.
  • Whilst walking my dog, I pick up twigs, bring them home, dry them slowly. Then I shape and sand the twigs, leaving as much of the natural feel of the wood and bark as possible.
  • Then, over time, I use the left-over lacquer to decorate the rests.  I use bronze gold [brass] for additional decoration.

Twigs turned into chopstick rests

Here are a few samples of ones done in the past, if you are interested to own one, please let me know.  All proceeds will go to St Luke’s Hospice, Sheffield.
