Kintsugi to raise funds for various charities

Not wanting at this point of my life to start a business, rather than paying me for the kintsugi repairs that I do, I ask for contributions to go to a charity – the charity I have chosen at the moment is St Luke’s Hospice, Sheffield.

100% of the proceeds goes to St Luke’s, and on occasion to other charities.  I do not deduct anything for materials or time.   The only exception is when someone wants a piece finished in gold when, because it is very expensive, I sometimes ask to be reimbursed.  Currently 23.75 carat gold costs c.£153.50 inc. VAT for 1 gram; it changes daily according to gold prices.

Occasionally I will have pieces that are available to buy, the proceeds going to St Luke’s or another charity.  If you are interested, please contact me

Artists’ Brush Rests and Chopsticks Rests:

  • When you repair objects using the traditional kintsugi method, you use urushi lacquer. It is a very precious and valuable lacquer and there is often a little left over.
  • Rather than waste it, I had the idea to use it to make brush rests and chopstick rests.
  • Whilst walking my dog, I pick up twigs, bring them home, dry them slowly. Then I shape and sand the twigs, leaving as much of the natural feel of the wood and bark as possible.
  • Then, over time, I use the left-over lacquer to decorate the rests.  I use bronze gold [brass] for additional decoration.

If you are interested in owning any, please let me know.  All proceeds will go to a charity.
